The episode yeh rishta kya kehlata hai written update 22 august 2024begins with Abhira expressing her concern, saying, "Alright, I’ll find the ring. Where did it go? No one came into the outhouse, and the doors and windows were all shut. If no one entered, then where did the ring disappear?" Just then, Ruhi spots the ring.
In a flashback, Ruhi is shown fighting off some thieves while Abhira waits nearby. Abhira lies, pretending to sleep, and Ruhi sneaks in to steal the ring. She leaves quietly, and Abhira, still holding the ring box, smiles. The flashback ends.
Ruhi confronts Abhira, saying, "You stole my love, so I took your ring. I've been living with this pain ever since Armaan left me for you at the altar. Now, everyone will see that you’re not right for this household, especially when you couldn’t even keep track of a ring." Abhira sits down, crying, and worries, "What will happen now? Armaan must be getting ready for the engagement."
Meanwhile, Armaan asks, "What, you’re not going to give Abhira the ancestral bangles? This isn’t right; I want our wedding to follow all the traditions. I don’t want her name to be changed." He praises Abhira, saying she's responsible. However, Dadi disagrees, saying the engagement should proceed without the ritual. Vidya takes off her bangles and says, "The ritual will happen; I’ll give my bangles to my daughter-in-law." Abhira, feeling overwhelmed, leaves the room in tears, saying, "I’m not responsible. What should I do now?" Armaan follows and greets her, while Ruhi watches from afar.
Armaan, noticing her distress, asks, "What’s wrong? Did the salon cancel your appointment, or didn’t you like the dress? There’s still time before the engagement, tell me what’s bothering you, and we’ll fix it." Just as Abhira is about to respond, Vidya interrupts, urging her to get ready quickly. Vidya asks if she has Armaan's ring, saying she wants to place it on the ring stand. Seeing Abhira’s hesitation, Ruhi thinks, "I know you’ll tell the truth sooner or later."
Ruhi regrets, "I made a huge mistake by letting go of my love, but I’ll make it right. I have a claim on this ring." Vidya and Manisha enter the kitchen. Vidya asks what’s going on, and Ruhi hurriedly hides the ring in a cooker, making up excuses. Manisha and Ruhi argue over making khichdi, causing the cooker to fall. Ruhi apologizes, saying, "I’ll clean it up, it’s my fault. I’ll make the khichdi." Vidya agrees and leaves with Manisha. Ruhi retrieves the ring, determined not to lose it.
Armaan, still puzzled by Abhira's earlier distress, shares his concerns with Krish, who pulls him aside. Vidya places a dress on a tray, and Ruhi volunteers to take it to Abhira, saying she'll also bring Armaan's ring. Vidya instructs her to watch over the food, saying she and Kiara will handle it. Dadi advises, "Make sure the girl looks like she belongs to our class, even if she's proud of her middle-class background." Vidya agrees.
Abhira, Vidya, and Kiara enter the room. Vidya notices a torn cushion and asks what happened. Kiara explains that it was caused by mice and that she’ll arrange for pest control. Vidya hands over the dress and jewellery to Abhira and then asks for the ring. Abhira says she wants to pray in front of her mother’s photo first.
