IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack Review - A Gripping Tale of Real-Life Terror
IC 814 The Kandahar Hijack Review |
Friends, when any terrorist activity, terrorist attack, or plane hijacking happens, innocent lives are obviously in danger, and the entire nation trembles with fear and anxiety. It also creates an emergency situation where everyone, from the country's PM, CM, Intelligence Bureau, Police Force, NSG Commandos, media, and press, gets involved. But what happens during such hostile events can only be told by those who have survived that trauma. The events in this series are adapted from the book written by Captain Sharan, whose role is played by Vijay Varma here.
To be very honest, this series turned out to be better, not only because of the storytelling but also due to the fabulous performances of every actor. And why not? It has a cast of seasoned actors like Arvind Swami, who I saw after a long time, Kumud Mishra, Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapoor, Vijay Varma, Dia Mirza, Manoj Pahwa, Aditya Srivastava—what a casting this is! But somewhere, I felt that the makers couldn't utilize these legendary actors as much as they could have.
But, bro, I was most impressed by Rajeev Thakur. In Kapil Sharma's show, his comedy didn't quite land, sorry, but here, he fits perfectly in the role of the main hijacker. I think serious roles suit him better. The same happened with Kapil Sharma in Jaga, where he moved away from comedy to play a completely serious role, and what an acting job Kapil Paji did there! Here, Rajeev Thakur has done similar great work.
The series smartly merges real footage from 1999 when the airplane was hijacked, giving it a realistic touch that draws us even deeper into the series. Since this is a real story, all the events shown are also real. I believe that the hijackers' names should have been kept real as well. What kind of pressure was on the makers, I don't know. You can find out for yourself if you look it up.
Creative freedom has definitely added some masala to certain scenes, but if you like drama and distressing movies based on real events from our country, then you might find this series slow-paced. If you're already aware of this event, then even better, you can watch it for the actor's performances and storytelling.
The story is a bit old, almost 25 years old, so its filming is kept in a slightly old tone. You'll notice a warm tone throughout the series, but somewhere, the extra saturation and overexposed light are a bit harsh on the eyes. You'll understand when you watch the series yourself. However, the story takes its time to build up, which might test your patience.
Overall, considering the real events, actor performances, and picturization, I would give this series three out of five stars.
